The Northern
Cape is a dry region with fluctuating temperatures and differing
topographies. Its weather is typically that of desert and semi-desert
areas. In South Africa.
The winter rains to the Northern Cape bring to life
the glorious profusion of wildflowers that decorate the regions
from late August until the end of September. Kimberley, the capital
of the Northern Cape is well know for its history of diamonds and
many important battles of the devastating Anglo- Boer War that lasted
from 1899 to 1902 were fought in this region.
The Green Kalahari a flourishing green valley marks
the path that the Orange River cuts through the Northern Cape where
farmers and, in particular, winemakers have learnt to use every
precious drop of water wisely. The Augrabies Falls National Park
and the Kgalagadi Trans frontier Park (a combined conservation project
between South Africa and Botswana), where thousands of animals have
found sanctuary, are undoubtedly the two jewels of the region.
