Hall`s Country House Click on a photo to enlarge it. Description: This Edwardian residence, built in 1904, is a classic example of a Natal Verandah House and has a charm all of its own. Halls you can relax in the privacy of your suite, be pampered with sundowners in the pub or fine food in our restaurant next to a roaring log fire. It is set in a beautiful, tranquil garden with abundant bird life and views of rolling hills. All our suites have separate entrances, are light and airy and open into a lush garden. All are fully en-suite, most with bathrooms and showers, in which you will find locally-produced, handmade soaps and other toiletries. The linen is crisp and the towels fluffy. Heaters, electric blankets, hot water bottles, tea- and coffee-making facilities, biscuits and a welcoming decanter of sherry are also provided. Our cuisine relies on the freshest, homemade or locally produced, organic ingredients. You can expect free range eggs, homemade breads and garden fresh vegetables and herbs. We're a bit remote (5 kilometres outside the village of Mooi River), so our restaurant opens in the evenings for dinner. (Think romance, candles and blazing fires). You'll find starters to be R20-R30, mains to be R50-R60 and desserts R20-R30. So generally, a 3-course meal is going to be about R100, and a good bottle of wine about the same. We do cater for vegetarians. The attractions in our area are many. We're the last guest house on the tarred road to Giant's Castle where you can walk / hike in pristine and dramatically beautiful surroundings. In the summer you can swim in crystal-clear rock pools and rivers. It�s a lot less developed than the Northern �Berg but the maps are good and the 20+ trails are well marked. South Africa�s three premier outdoor galleries of Bushman rock art (Kamberg, Injasuti and Giant�s Castle) are all within easy reach. As is the Tugela Falls (at 910 metres, it�s the second highest waterfall in the world). And you�ve got the Amphitheatre and the Royal Natal National Park. If you would like us to recommend a good guide for a fly fishing day (or two), we can certainly do so. And we�ll cook whatever you catch. You could also go on a horse trail through the rivers and forests of the Drakensberg foothills with the South African Ladies Endurance Champion, who lives just a few kilometres away. One of the foremost authorities on the Anglo-Boer War is based in Mooi River and he�d be happy to share your breakfast with you while he "sets the scene" and then takes you on a day tour of the Colenso and Spioenkop battlefields. If you�re a golfer, Boschoek is only 20 minutes away and it�s a stunning course. Then we're members of the Midlands Meander, which as you probably know, is the largest arts and crafts ramble in the country, with 180 members. A for instance or two? When last did you buy something that you knew was going to last 10 years? If you buy a pair of hand-made leather shoes at the Groundcover Leather Company, plan on bringing them back in about a decade for new soles. The Linen Loft is just down the road. All women love it. It�s like a Woolies factory shop. Outstanding quality and good prices. Or, if you need an adrenalin jump, try a Karkloof Canopy Tour. Culamoya make precision-tuned wind chimes � you�re bound to find one that harmonizes with your soul. Or how about a pamper session at the Brookdale Health Hydro? (Gentlemen too!). Then you`ve only got another 175 to go. And if you have the flexibility to be here on a Wednesday afternoon, you could take in a Drakensberg Boys' Choir concert � it really is a sublime experience.
