Cavers is a fifth generation family owned farm with one of the most beautiful gardens in South Africa, 16 km from the scenic village of Bedford. A stone double storey homestead, built in 1860, is used exclusively for guests and offers 4 en-suite luxury bedrooms. A spacious lounge with fire place, TV sitting room with honesty bar and a gracious dining room overlooking the swimming pool, is for exclusive use of guests. A private thatched garden cottage offers two spacious and charmingly decorated en-suite bedrooms.
From the kitchen comes fine country cuisine. Farm lamb, beef and venison, prepared to your preference with a home grown selection of fresh farm vegetables. Candle-lit dinners are served in the dining room of the main stone double storey homestead. A traditional barbeque around the pool or in the veld under the African stars is also a favorite. English or Continental breakfasts are served on the patio or in the guest dining room. Home made bread, butter, preserves, cheese and yogurts are offered.
Enjoy three hectares of beautiful garden with a vast variety of trees, shrubs and flowers. Having appeared in many publications, including ?Beautiful Gardens of South Africa? the Cavers garden with it?s two swimming pools, blends in with the natural beauty of it?s surroundings and offers the opportunity to really relax.
Two suitable dams are stocked with Large-Mouth Bass and Blue-Gill Sunfish. Bass and fly rods are available for the enthusiastic fishermen/women.
A clay tennis court, surrounded by an avenue of oaks, is available for the more energetic who would like to play tennis.
Trained horses and guides are available for riding or going on mountain and veld trails enabling you to enjoy the picturesque landscapes on horseback.
For those interested in British military history this area in the nearby Kroomie Mountains, offers a fascinating introduction to the exploits of the British army during the 1850?s.
Savour the panoramic mountain views of this truly, up to now, unexploited area. On the way back to Cavers a visit to the Fort Beaufort and Adelaide museums is advisable to round off an interesting experience.
An unspoilt natural game reserve only an hours drive from Cavers where one can View Buffalo, Rhino, Giraffe and many species of antelope in their natural surroundings. Daily game drives can be organized on request.
