Clearwater Chalets & Trails Click on a photo to enlarge it. Description: Clearwater Chalets are situated on a banana & macadamia farm a few steps from the Umtamvuna Nature Reserve. Each timber built chalet is totally secluded and enjoys spectacular views across the Umtamvuna River Gorge. Timber cabins set amongst the trees provide guests with rustic, comfortable self-catering accommodation at affordable prices. Ablution facilities have hot showers and the premises is secure. From your doorstep, rich bird and endemic plant life, baboons barking in the gorge and simply stunning sunsets over Pondoland can be enjoyed. The 4 and 6 bed Cabins consist of two bedrooms, with single beds. Between the two rooms is a covered sitting area, with an outdoor toilet / shower and kitchenette set between the two rooms. The kitchenette is equipped with cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and basic cooking utensils. Included is an electric fridge / freezer, kettle and toaster. Cooking and water heating is on gas. The 2 bed Cabin is set on stilts with a double bed and private 'bush' bathroom (shower). Kitchen facilities are within the central sitting / dining area, a few steps away They are fully equipped for self-catering, and sleep up to 6 people in 2 rooms. Cooking and water heating is by gas & a generator provides the lights. Alternatively, take up the cottage (sleeping 4), adjacent the main farmhouse to enjoy peace and privacy within an indigenous garden. Braai facilities are available. They are not serviced except by prior arrangement. There are marked trails around the farm for walking or mountain biking. There are dams for fishing, swimming or canoeing. A tour to see banana reaping and packing can be arranged on working days.The Nature Reserve has several well marked trails and is a paradise for birders and nature lovers. We are members of BirdlifeSA - Birder Friendly Establishment. Spot a pair of Striped Pipits are seen regularly near to the cabins while Fish Eagle, Crowned Eagle, Jackal Buzzard and Rock Kestrels can be seen from soaring through the gorge. There are plenty of streams and waterfalls for cooling off. Visitors are assured of peace and privacy while being within 10 minutes drive of beach, shops & casino.
